"Foundations is a new sculptural work in my ongoing wall series. Over the years, I have become fascinated with private and public space in relation to queer culture and the ways in which objects signify and denote the spaces that we encounter. The fascination stems from Jean Genets 1950 film ‘Un Chant D’amour’ which sees a wall as the protagonist and setting for a love story between two male prisoners. This wall is used to blow cigarette smoke back and forth, therefore seductively communicating to one another.
In relation to queer culture, the devalued objects of society, such as walls, have become a source of inspiration and through a process of mould making and casting these works in jesmonite, I take a devalued object and revalue and exalt them." - Liam Fallon, 2020
