As part of the plaid series, this work is one of multiple paintings inspired by seventies fashion ads. Influenced by Barkley L. Hendricks, these works came about as the artist’s earlier works already consisted of an abundance of patterns. Combined with his desire for repetition, these paintings are an homage to the distinctive clothing of the era which is often laughed at and doesn’t get the credit it deserves. These are the first paintings to feature what seems to be unfinished, white parts but give, together with the white outline, an even more flat appearance as being cut out and pasted on.
