Anders Davidsen Danish, b. 1987

Overview

Anders Davidsen makes paintings that deal with atmosphere and light in the image of the sun or moon rising from - or setting in the sea. He works from memory, drawing on moments where boundaries between inner and outer worlds are felt to dissolve, making the atmosphere and appearance of a landscape seem to merge with an inner state. He paints in oils, in thin and dry layers, using force to push the pigments into the tinted chalk gesso, wiping and scrubbing off paint to achieve a desired surface. Davidsen is careful not to overwork the paintings, as they should be able to breathe, so they radiate the colors of the layers outwards and have an openness to them. He aims to make paintings that come about in an unforced way, and that have a certain silence to them.
